VIENNA, 12 February (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Jamaicato the United Nations (Vienna), Cheryl Kay Spencer, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During her career, Ms. Spencer, who is also serving as Permanent Representative to the United Nations, World Trade Organization and Specialized Agencies at Geneva, and as Ambassador to Austria, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey, has served in various capacities, among them:
High Commissioner to South Africa and Ambassador to the countries of East and Southern Africa (2015-2018); Senior Director, Foreign Trade Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2010-2014); Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva (2008-2010); Minister-Counsellor, Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva (2004-2008); Assistant Director, Foreign Trade Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-2004); Deputy High Commissioner, and Acting High Commissioner (1998-1999) to Trinidad and Tobago (1997-2000); First Secretary at Embassy in Belgium (1993-1997); Foreign Service Officer, Multilateral Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992-1993); Foreign Service Officer, European Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1991-1992); and Foreign Service Officer, Foreign Trade Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1990-1991).
Ms. Spencer holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the University of the West Indies. She speaks English, French and Spanish.
