VIENNA, 26 April (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Ecuadorto the United Nations (Vienna), Roberto Betancourt-Ruales, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Betancourt-Ruales has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador to Georgia (2016 - 2019); Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Ecuador to Turkey (2015-2019); Chief Negotiator of Ecuador for the Trade Agreement with the European Union (2013-2014); Ambassador to Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden (2005-2010); Permanent Representative to the UN and other specialized agencies in Geneva (2001); Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the World Trade Organization in Geneva (1996-2002); Alternative Representative of Ecuador, Permanent Committee of the Latin American Integration Association (1985-1989) and he has also served as Under-Secretary for Multilateral Relations, Economic Affairs, Bilateral Relations and International Negotiations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Betancourt-Ruales studied Regional Development at the Federal University do Para-Belem and graduated as an economist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador.
He is married and has four children.
