VIENNA, 26 August (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of the Netherlandsto the United Nations (Vienna), Albert Hendrik Gierveld, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Gierveld has served in various capacities, among them:
Deputy Director General - Agriculture and Director - European, International and Agro-Economic policy, Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, The Hague (since 2015); Ambassador to Yemen (2014-2015); Deputy Director - Multilateral Organizations and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague (2010-2014); Counsellor, Head of Unit for Environmental and Climate Policies, Permanent Representation to the European Union, Brussels (2006-2010); Seconded National Expert at Policy Coordination and Planning Department, Secretariat-General of the European Commission, Brussels (2004-2006); Counsellor, Head of Unit - Economic Affairs, Embassy of the Netherlands in Rome (2001-2004); Senior Policy Officer, Head of Task Force ICC, European Integration Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague (1996-2001); Second Secretary, Trade and Investment, Embassy of the Netherlands in Budapest (1993-1996); Junior Policy Officer, Security Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague (1991-1993); Diplomatic Training, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague (1990-1991); Lieutenant at the Netherland Army Staff, Ministry of Defence, The Hague (1986-1987).
Mr. Gierveld holds a Master's degree in Political Science and Law from the University of Amsterdam.
He is married and has two children.
