VIENNA, 20 November (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office (Vienna), Alessandro Cortese, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Cortese has served in various capacities, among them:
Head, Press Department and Spokesperson for the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (2018-2019); Deputy Director General for Political Affairs and Principal Director for Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018); Coordinator of Italian 2018 OSCE Chairmanship, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017); Permanent Representative to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union (2012-2017); Diplomatic Advisor of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Italian Parliament (2008-2012); Deputy Head of Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2008); Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy in Ottawa (2002-2006); Head of the Western Balkans Unit, Council of the European Union (1999-2002); Head of Desk, Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997-1999); Common Foreign and Security Policy Counsellor, Permanent Mission to the European Union (1995-1997); Head of the OSCE - Council of Europe desk, Common Foreign and Security Policy Directorate and in the Directorate for Political Cooperation (1993-1995); and Head of Commercial Office, Embassy in Pretoria (1989-1993).
Mr. Cortese holds a Law Degree from the University of Rome.
Mr. Cortese is married and has a son.
