VIENNA, 10 December (UN Information Service) - This Human Rights Day celebrates young women and men and their essential contribution to making the world a better place.
By demanding accountability, opposing violence and calling for a fair future, young people are standing up for equality and human dignity. We need to listen to their voices and live up to our responsibilities.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) stands with young leaders in advancing justice and the rule of law in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, to stop criminals and those who rob people of their rights, to promote transparency, opportunity and well-being, and make the world safer.
Building on international commitments, UNODC is helping countries to develop crime prevention and criminal justice responses that promote human rights and the rule of law, to effectively tackle threats through victim-centred, gender- and youth-responsive action.
Through education and sports-based learning, UNODC is helping to foster a culture of lawfulness and life skills that strengthen youth resilience to crime, corruption, drugs and terrorism. We are championing young innovators to propose solutions to shared problems and participate in global dialogues about their future.
Standing up for human rights together, we can empower young people and help build a just, sustainable future that leaves no one behind.
