VIENNA, 29 May (United Nations Information Service) - In May 2018, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) published an "Announcement of Opportunity" inviting Member States to submit applications to conduct scientific experiments on board the China Space Station (CSS). This opportunity is provided through the United Nations/China Cooperation on the Utilization of the CSS, a forward-looking initiative to open the CSS to all countries and create a new paradigm in building capabilities in space science and technology, in particular for developing countries.
Through this initiative, UNOOSA, with the generous support and collaboration of the Government of China, is advancing international cooperation in space science and technology for peaceful purposes, in particular for developing countries, and helping all nations enhance the use of space for sustainable development, thereby contributing to the fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Building on the widespread interest and positive results from the application process, the preliminary selection activities and the final selection process, this joint event by UNOOSA and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) will announce the outcome of the final selection. The event will be followed by a reception from 14:00-15:00 on the same day.
