VIENNA, 14 November (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - This year's Africa Industrialization Day (AID) symposium will be held under the theme of the Africa Industrialization Week (AIW): "Positioning African Industry to supply the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) Market". Standing at a crossroad between the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA III) and the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA), the 30th celebration of the Africa Industrialization Day establishes a platform to reflect on ways forward to accelerate Africa's industrialization in a unique context marked by these global and pan-African initiatives. The celebration is expected to raise awareness of the international community about the AfCFTA and its implications for future development cooperation, prioritizing innovative partnerships.
The Director-General of UNIDO, LI Yong and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov will participate in the event.
In 1989, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 20 November as Africa Industrialization Day. African countries are able to reflect and involve discussions regarding innovative approaches and future implementations towards achieving strategic and sustainable industrial development.
Celebrated jointly by the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, the United Nations Economic Commission on Africa (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC) and UNIDO, the 2019 AID aims to gather policymaking officials, development partners, donors and representatives of the private sector.
Media representatives are invited to attend the event which starts at 14:30, on 20 November 2019, in Conference Room 3 C-Building, Vienna International Centre (VIC), in Vienna, Austria. The event is followed by a dinner reception at 17:30 at the VIC.
