VIENNA, 17 November (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations (Vienna), Kairat Umarov, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Umarov, who is also Ambassador to Austria, has served in various capacities, among them:
Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2017-2020); Ambassador to the United States of America (2013-2017); Deputy Foreign Minister (2009-2013); Ambassador to India (2004-2009); Ambassador to Sri Lanka (2008-2009); Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chief Inspector of the Foreign Policy Centre, Administration of the President (2004); Minister-Counsellor, Embassy in the United States (1998-2003); Deputy Director of the Third Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997-1998); Head of the Unit and Deputy Director of the European States Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-1997); First Secretary and Counsellor, Embassy in the United States (1994-1996); Second Secretary, First Secretary, and Head of the Section, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992-1994).
Mr. Umarov graduated with honours from the Almaty Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages.
He speaks English and French.
Mr. Umarov is married.
