VIENNA, 18 December (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations (Vienna), Min Thein, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Thein who is also Ambassador-designate to Austria, has served in various capacities, among them:
Director-General, Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2019-2020); Deputy Director-General, International Organizations and Economic Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-2019); Deputy Director-General, Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016-2017); Counsellor, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy in Washington D.C. (2013-2016); Deputy Director, Training, Research and Foreign Language Department and Political Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2008-2013); First Secretary, Counsellor, Embassy in Vientiane (2005-2008); Assistant Director, Political Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2005); Second, First Secretary, Embassy in Tokyo (1998-2002); and Head of Branch, Political Department and Department of Myanmar Missions Abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993-1998).
Mr. Min Thein holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Yangon University. He holds a Master of International Studies from Chung-Ang University in Seoul and a Master of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C.
Mr. Min Thein is married and has two sons.
