Permanent Representative of Panama presents credentials

VIENNA, 7 May (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations (Vienna), Dario Ernesto Chiru Ochoa, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During his career, Mr. Chiru Ochoa, has served in various capacities, among them:

General Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2019-2021); Deputy Director General, Diplomatic and Consular Academy "Ernesto Pimentel Castillero" (2018-2019); Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union (2015-2018); Chargé d’Affaires to Belgium and the European Union (2012-2015); Deputy Minister's Office Adviser (2010-2012); Ambassador to Germany (2006-2009); General Director of Foreign Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004-2006); Deputy General Director of the Diplomatic Career (2002-2004); Adviser, Directorate-General for International Organizations, Agencies and International Conferences (2000-2002); Head Representative, Panama-China Trade Development Office, Beijing (1996-2000); Ambassador to Haiti (1995-1996); International Analyst, Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, Directorate-General for Foreign Policy (1990-1995); Third Secretary, later Second Secretary, later First Secretary, Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York (1985-1990); Third Secretary of Diplomatic and Consular Career, Directorate-General for International Organizations, Conferences and Treaties (1983-1985).

Mr. Chiru Ochoa holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Panama, Faculty of Public Affairs Management, and a Master’s in Development Policy from the Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales & Stratégique (CERIS) in Brussels.

Mr. Chiru Ochoa is married and has one son.
