VIENNA, 17 June (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations (Vienna), Laura Virginia Faxas de Jorgensen, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During her career, Ms. Faxas, has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador to Austria (2020-present); Ambassador and Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2020); Ambassador to Sweden with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway (2017-2020); Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Monaco and Burkina Faso (2009-2013); and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) (1996-2000, 2004-2010 and 2013-2016).
Ms. Faxas holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris, a Master's degree in Social Sciences from Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences-Mexico and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo,
Ms. Faxas speaks English, French and Spanish.
She is married and has one daughter.
