Permanent Representative of New Zealand presents credentials

VIENNA, 2 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of New Zealand, Brian Hewson, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During his career Mr. Hewson has served in various capacities, among them:

Special Adviser, International Security and Disarmament Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2020-present); Divisional Manager (Director), North Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2020); Unit Manager (Deputy Director), North Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2018-2019); Counsellor Political, Embassy in Beijing, China (2015-2018); Deputy Consul-General, Consulate-General in Shanghai, China (2010-2014); Senior Policy Officer, Pacific Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2008-2010); Senior Analyst, Strategic Policy Division, Ministry of Defence (2007-2008); Private Secretary, Office of the Minister of Defence (2004-2006); Policy Analyst, International Defence Relations Branch, Ministry of Defence (2000-2004); and Assistant Lecturer of Asia-Pacific History at the School of History, Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand (1997-2000).

Mr. Hewson holds a Ph.D. and a Bachelor’s Degree in History, Politics and Philosophy both from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Mr. Hewson speaks Chinese and English.
