VIENNA, 13 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Lithuania, Vaidotas Verba, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Verba has served in various capacities, among them:
Adviser on Foreign Policy to the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament (2018-2021); Project Coordinator (Head of Mission) for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Ukraine (2014-2018); Team Leader of the Odessa group of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (2014); Special Envoy for the European Union’s Eastern Partnership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012-2014); Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) (2007-2012); Chairman of the Conference of the State Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) (2009); Head of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-2007); and Minister Counsellor, Embassy in Canada (2000-2003).
Mr. Verba holds a Master’s Degree in Law from Vilnius University. Mr. Verba also graduated from the University of Birmingham, Graduate School of Political Science and International Studies and from the Lithuanian Sports University.
He speaks Lithuanian, English and Russian.
