Permanent Representative of Sweden presents credentials

VIENNA, 16 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Sweden, Annika Markovic, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During her career, Ms. Markovic, who is also Ambassador to Austria, has served in various capacities, among them:

Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and to the International Criminal Court in The Hague (2018-2021); Permanent Representative to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) (2014-2018); Environment Ambassador, Ministry of the Environment and Co-Chair of the Arctic Council high-level task force on black carbon and methane and Climate and Clean Air Coalition (2011-2014); Ambassador to Brazil with concurrent accreditation to Suriname (2007-2011); Ambassador to the Philippines and Palau (2003-2007); Deputy Director at the multilateral department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2003); and First Secretary at the Swedish Mission to the United Nations in New York (1995-1999).

Ms. Markovic graduated in Business Economics from the University of Stockholm. She also holds a certificate de Langue et de Civilisation from the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Ms. Markovic speaks Swedish and English.

She is married and has three children.
