VIENNA, 18 November (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations (Vienna), Mireya del Carmen Muñoz Mera, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During her career, Ms. Muñoz Mera, has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador-designate to Austria (2021-present); Ambassador to Israel (2020); Undersecretary of Multilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ecuador (2018-2020); Director of South America, Director of United Nations System, Environmental Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017); Consul in The Hague and Deputy Representative to international organizations based in the Netherlands (2015-2017); Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy in Colombia (2012-2014); Director of Global Trade, Environmental Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2011); Negotiator of Ecuador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland (2003-2008); and from 1995-1999 Ms. Muñoz Mera worked at the Embassy in Washington D.C.
Ms. Muñoz Mera studied at the Diplomatic Academy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador from 1989 to 1990.
