VIENNA, 20 April (UN Information Service) – The Permanent Representative of Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United Nations (Vienna), Khonepheng Thammavong, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Thammavong, who is also Ambassador to Austria and Non-Resident Ambassador to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia, has served in various capacities, among them:
Advisor to the Economics Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021-2022); Ambassador to Singapore (2016-2021); Deputy Director General, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2013-2016); Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva (2008-2013); Director, UN Political and Security Affairs Division, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2008); Second and First Secretary, Embassy in Tokyo, Japan (2002-2006); Deputy Director, UN Political and Security Affairs Division, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997-2002); and Third Secretary, Embassy to Japan and the Republic of Korea (1993-1996).
Mr. Thammavong holds a masters in International Relations from Moscow State University of International Relations.
Mr. Thammavong is married and has two children.
