Permanent Representative of Cyprus presents credentials

VIENNA, 27 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the United Nations (Vienna), Maria Michail, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During her career, Ms. Michail has served in various capacities, among them:

Director of the Cyprus Question and Turkey Directorate (2018-2022); Head of Crisis Management Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018); Head of the Department of Eastern Europe, Western Balkans and Central Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015-2017); High Commissioner to India, with parallel accreditation to Bangladesh, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam (2012-2015); Deputy Permanent Representative, Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations in Geneva (2009-2012); Deputy Director of the Cyprus Question and Turkey Division (2008-2009); Served at the Foreign Minister's Cabinet (2006-2007); Deputy High Commissioner in London, United Kingdom (2003-2006); and served at the Embassy in Washington, D.C, United States (2000-2003).

Ms. Michail holds a Master of Arts in European studies from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts in politics from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

Ms. Michail speaks English and Greek.

She is married.
