VIENNA, 8 September (UN Information Service) – The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine will hold a media briefing to coincide with the visit of the Commissioners to Vienna, where the Secretariat of the Commission is based.
The briefing will take place on Thursday, 15 September 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Media Hub (Room C02 25A), in the C-building at the Vienna International Centre (VIC).
Commissioners Erik Møse (Chair), Jasminka Džumhur and Pablo de Greiff will be speaking at the press briefing. They will brief journalists about how the Commission works and how it conducts its fact-finding activities. The Commissioners cannot discuss their preliminary findings until they have delivered their oral update to the UN Human Rights Council on 23 September in Geneva.
Media representatives who wish to attend the briefing should email press.vienna[at]un.org for accreditation by C.O.B. on Tuesday 13th September.

Background information
The UN created the Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine to investigate all alleged violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law and related crimes in the context of the aggression against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The main objectives of the Commission are to establish the facts about what has happened and to try to ensure that the people responsible are held accountable. The task of the Commission is broad. The findings of its investigation will be reflected in reports, which will include recommendations aimed at preventing such crimes from happening again. In addition to the oral update, the Commission will submit a report to the General Assembly in October 2022 and present a comprehensive report to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2023.
