SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS ROSEMARY MCCREERY
OF IRELAND AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY-GENERAL
FOR HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
NEW YORK, 19 June (UN Headquarters) -- The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Rosemary McCreery of Ireland as Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management.
Ms. McCreery has been serving since 2000 as United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative in the Russian Federation and Belarus. She is also currently serving as Special Adviser to the Executive Director of UNICEF at the Director level.
Earlier in her career, Ms. McCreery served with the Irish Foreign Service (1975-1979). Ms. McCreery’s career with UNICEF, which began in 1979, involved assignments at various postings, including as Programme Coordinator, Area and Urban Services and Community Development Programmes, UNICEF Indonesia (1985-1988) and Special Representative, UNICEF Romania (1991-1993). Her extensive field experience with UNICEF also includes service in Togo and Madagascar. Ms. McCreery spent four years as Deputy Director of Human Resources, UNICEF New York
(1993-1997) and served as Director of the Cambodia Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Phnom Penh (1998-1999).
Ms. McCreery is a graduate of Trinity College in Dublin where she majored in Modern Languages and Literature (French and Italian).
