New Permanent Representative of Jamaica Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 13 January (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Jamaica, Peter Carlysle DeBrosse Black, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.
Mr. Black is also serving as Permanent Representative to the United Nations (Geneva) and as Ambassador (non-resident) to Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Egypt and Italy.
Mr. Black has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador (non-resident) to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Suriname, High Commissioner to Barbados, Guyana and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Ambassador/Special Envoy to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Permanent Representative to the Association of Caribbean States (2005-08), Under-Secretary, Bilateral and Regional Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (2001-05), Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador (non-resident) to the Czech Republic, the Holy See, Hungary, Israel, Poland, the Russian Federation, Slovakia and Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (1992-2001), Executive Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Ambassador (non-resident) to Cuba (1989-1992), Director, Protocol and Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (1987-89), Chargé d'Affaires, Embassy to Moscow, USSR (1983-87), Minister Counsellor, Embassy to Bonn, West Germany (1978-83), Assistant Director, Political Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (1975-78), Special Assistant to the Minister of National Security and Justice (1975), First Secretary, Embassy to Paris, France (1973-75), First Secretary, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (Geneva) (1972-73), Second Secretary, Jamaican High Commission, London, United Kingdom (1970-72) and Foreign Service Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (1968-69).
Mr. Black holds a certificate in Business Management and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and History from the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica, and a diploma in International Relations from Oxford University, United Kingdom.
Mr. Black speaks English, German, French and Spanish.
He is married.
