New Permanent Representative of Latvia presents credentials

VIENNA, 18 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Latvia to the United Nations (Vienna), Raimonds Oškalns, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During his career, Mr. Oškalns, who is also Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and other International Organizations in Vienna, has served in various capacities, among them:

Director, Security Policy Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2022-2024); Head of Global Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021); Special Representative for the Latvian Chairmanships of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and the Wassenaar Arrangement Experts Group (2018-2020); Director for Strategic Communication, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016-2018); Adviser to the State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015-2016); Deputy Permanent Representative of Latvia to the UN, OSCE and other International Organizations in Vienna (2010-2015); Head of Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-proliferation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007-2010).

Mr. Oškalns holds a Master’s degree in international and European security from the University of Geneva and is a graduate in Law from the University of Latvia.
