New Permanent Observer of the United Nations University for Peace presents credentials

VIENNA, 18 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Observer of the United Nations University for Peace to the United Nations (Vienna), David Fernández Puyana, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During his career, Mr. Fernández Puyana, who is also Ambassador and Permanent Observer of the United Nations University for Peace to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris and the United Nations Office at Geneva, has served in various capacities, among them:

Lecturer in diplomacy and international relations at the Shanghai University; Coordinator of the UNESCO “Peace Research” (2015-2017); Adviser to the UNESCO Liaison Office in Geneva; Legal and diplomatic adviser at the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the UN in Geneva and Assistant to the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the UN Intergovernmental Open Ended Working Group on the right to peace (2013-2015); worked with Religions for Peace, Finn Church Aid, UNESCO Etxea and International Association of Peace Messenger Cities (2006-2013); and co-founded the UNESCO Chair on Peace, Solidarity and Intercultural Dialogue at the University Abat Oliba CEU in Spain.

Mr. Fernández Puyana holds the title of Doctor in Law with European Mention from the University of Pompeu Fabra, Spain and a LLM on Human Rights Law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He also has a Master’s on Human Rights Protection from the University of Alcala de Henares, Spain and a Master’s on International Relations from the University of Pompeu Fabra.
