In the Slovak capital Bratislava, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic held an Open House Day on Saturday 20 March, at which citizens had the opportunity to inform themselves on a broad range of international issues. The United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, whose office is based less than 60 kilometres away at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, participated with an information table on the United Nations. The table was staffed by a team from UNIS Vienna and its Visitors Service, together with a representative of the Permanent Mission of Slovakia to the United Nations (Vienna), providing information on the work of the United Nations and on Slovakia's role in the Organization, as well as a premiere view of the film "United Nations Year in Review 2009" with Slovak-language subtitles, translated by UNIS Vienna.
Highlights of the Ministry's Open House Day included performances by celebrity guests Kristina, Slovak representative in 2010 Eurovision Song Contest; Martin Chodur, 2009 Czecho Slovak SuperStar; and Sendreiovci - Roma Family Music Group, as well as a symbolic football kick off by Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajcak together with Slovak football trainer Vladimir Weiss, and awards of the Goodwill Ambassador title by the Foreign Minister to successful Slovaks living abroad.
