Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and experts, among them United Nations (UN) professionals, gathered at the United Nations in Vienna for a Roundtable under the slogan "Leading the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through partnerships" on 8 November 2018. CEOs and experts agreed with Angelika Sommer-Hemetsberger, Board Member of Österreischische Kontrollbank AG's invitation: "Be open for new partnerships. … Openness is really a measure to implement the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development."
Dedicated to achieving the SDGs, the Austrian Development Agency's Managing Director Martin Ledolter said: "As a multi-stakeholder platform, the Global Compact Network Austria is beneficial because we are learning from each other and building partnerships." So far, it has established more than 120 partnerships. Luc St-Pierre from the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs spoke about the importance of partnerships to their work. Calling for a multi-stakeholder approach, Candice Welsch from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime confirmed: "Governments cannot do it alone. The public sector has to work with the private sector."
