NEW UNITED NATIONS WEBSITE ON THE QUESTION
OF THE UN ARMS INSPECTIONS IN IRAQ

In view of the strong media interest in the question of the UN arms inspection in Iraq we would like to draw your attention to a new United Nations website.

On the general news page http://www.un.org/news/ or specifically under the direct link

http://www.un.org/apps/news/infocusRel.asp?infocusID=50&Body=Iraq&Body1=inspect

you will find the new web "UN Arms Inspections in Iraq; Disarming Iraq of Weapons of Mass Destruction".

This page contains actual press information and Security Council documents and background information:

  • on the 1999 by the Security Council created United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC);
  • on the UN Special Commission (UNSCOM) that was active from 1991 - 1999;
  • and on the Iraq mandates of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEO).

Further on you will also find chronological data of

  • UNMOVIC (1999-2002),
  • of the IAEO (1991-1999)
  • and of UNSCOM (1991-1999)

as well as useful links, e.g. to the office of the UN Oil-for-Food Programme or the UN Department for Disarmament Affairs.
