United Nations Anti-Corruption Meeting Opens
in Doha on 9 November
Opening press conference on 9 November at 12:30 hours
VIENNA, 3 November 2009 (UN Information Service) - The Third Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) begins next week in Doha, Qatar. The meeting, from 9-13 November, will review implementation of the world's only universal, legally binding anti-corruption instrument. There will also be expert consultations on the prevention of corruption, the criminalization of corruption, asset recovery, and how to improve the delivery of technical assistance and international cooperation to strengthen integrity.
More than a thousand participants are expected from governments, regional and inter-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and the media.
Members of the press are invited to a press conference on 9 November at 12:30 hours in the Al Rayan room of the Conference Centre of the Sheraton Doha Resort. The press will be briefed by the Attorney General of Qatar, Ali Bin Fetais Al-Marri, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Antonio Maria Costa.
Accredited journalists will also have access to all side events of the Conference.
Media representatives wishing to cover the conference are advised to apply for accreditation before or during the session. Forms and criteria are available on:

Starting on Saturday, 7 November 2009, media representatives can receive accreditation in person at the press registration counter located in the Conference Centre of the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel. The registration desk will be open from 09:00 hours to 19:00 hours on 7 and 8 November, and from 08:00 hours to 19:00 hours on 9 to 13 November 2009.
