United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Visit Austria in September

Media invited to Launch of Anti-Corruption Academy

VIENNA, 31 August (UN Information Service) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Austria from 2-7 September 2010 for the official launch of the International Anti-Corruption Academy in Laxenburg as well as a bilateral visit to the country.

The Secretary-General will meet the Federal President Heinz Fischer and Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Michael Spindelegger. While in Vienna the Secretary-General will address the Conference: "From Vision to Reality: A New and Holistic Approach to Fighting Corruption" at the Hofburg Conference Centre on Thursday 2 September and then visit the International Anti-Corruption Academy at Laxenburg.

On Saturday 4 September the Secretary-General will address the closing session of the European Forum Alpbach 2010 on "The International Financial Crisis and the Millennium Development Goals", and participate in a Security Council Retreat session on "Challenges for Prevention and Protection - Challenges of Implementation". Ban Ki-moon will lead the annual retreat for UN senior officials on 5 and 6 September.

Media representatives are invited to attend the following:

1. Opening of the Conference: "From Vision to Reality: A New and Holistic Approach to Fighting Corruption including opening remarks by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Venue: Hofburg Conference Centre
Time: 14:30 hours, Thursday 2 September 2010
NB: There will be an opportunity for photographs/brief meetings with high level participants prior to the opening from 14:10-14:30 in the Hofburg Gallery. Please arrive by 13:15 hours.

Accreditation: Pre-registration is required to attend the Hofburg event. Media representatives who wish to attend should register with the Foreign Ministry Press Service by 12 noon on Wednesday 1 September at pk-anmeldungen@bmeia.gv.at.

2. Closing Session of the European Forum Alpbach 2010 "The International Financial Crisis and the Millennium Development Goals" with speech by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
