United Nations Anti-Corruption Meeting in Morocco Next Week

Opening Press Conference on Monday 24 October at 12:30 hours

MARRAKECH/VIENNA, 23 October (UN Information Service) - The Fourth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) begins next week in Marrakech, Morocco. The meeting from 24-28 October 2011 will review implementation of the world's only universal legally-binding anti-corruption instrument. More than one thousand participants are expected to attend including more than two dozen Ministers.

The Opening session of the Conference will begin at 10:00 hours on Monday 24 October (please take your seats by 9:45 hours). The Conference will be opened with the delivery of a Royal Message from King Mohammed VI of Morocco by the Royal Counsellor, Abdellatif Menounri, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Morocco, Abbas El Fassi. The President of the Conference will be the Minister of Public Sector Modernization, Mohamed Saad Alami.

Media representatives are invited to a press conference on Monday 24 October at 12:30 hours in the Oliveraie Room of the conference Centre of the Palmeraie Golf Palace Complex.
The press will be briefed by the President of the Conference, Morocco's Minister of Public Sector Modernization, Mohamed Saad Alami and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov.

The media are also invited to the launch of the report Estimating illicit financial flows resulting from drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime with the Executive Director of UNODC, Yury Fedotov on Tuesday 25 October at 13:00 hours in the Plenary Hall (Siroua/Tichka) of the conference centre of the Palmeraie Golf Palace Complex.

Media representatives can receive accreditation in person at the press registration counter located in the Palmeraie Golf Palace Complex (PGP) from 10:00 hours to 19:00 hours on Sunday 23 October and from 08:00 hours to 19:00 hours on 24-27 October. The completed application form must be accompanied by a copy of the representatives' press card or a letter of assignment issued on an official letterhead and signed by the editor or bureau chief of the media organization.
