Role of private sector in tackling corruption to be discussed at world's biggest anti-corruption gathering in St. Petersburg

Media Accreditation opens for Sixth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in St. Petersburg, 2 to 6 November 2015

VIENNA, 7 September (UN Information Service) - The Sixth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) - COSP6 will be held in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation from 2 to 6 November 2015. The private sector's role in the fight against corruption, the progress achieved by the Convention's Review Mechanism as its first cycle comes to a close, and the recovery of illicit assets will be among the topics to be discussed.

The high level opening will be addressed by the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov.

The United Nations Convention against Corruption is the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument. Every two years the States Parties to the Convention meet to review implementation of the Convention and discuss ways to improve cooperation between States parties to achieve the Convention's objectives. More than one thousand participants are expected to attend from governments, regional and inter-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and the media.

Media representatives wishing to cover the conference are advised to apply for accreditation in advance of the session by contacting the Accreditation Office of the United Nations Information Service Vienna or during the session at the Press Registration Counter at the conference venue, the Lenexpo Exhibition Complex.  Forms and criteria for media accreditation are available on the UNIS website: http://www.unis.unvienna.org/unis/en/events/2015/cosp6_2015.html
