VIENNA, 14 July (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations (Vienna), Peter Burian, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Burian, who is also Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other International Organizations in Vienna, has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador-at-large for Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (2021-2023); European Union Special Representative for Central Asia (2015-2021); State Secretary, First Deputy Minister for Foreign and European Affairs (2012-2015); Ambassador to the United States (2008-2012); Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations in New York (2004-2008) and Ambassador, Head of Slovakia´s Mission to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Brussels (1999-2003).
Mr. Burian is a graduate of St. Petersburg State University, School of Oriental Studies.

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) new World Wildlife Crime Report finds that – despite positive signs in reducing trafficking impacts for some iconic species like elephants and rhinoceros – wildlife trafficking overall has not been substantially reduced over two decades.
The 33rd Session will bring together participants from Member States, UN entities, inter-governmental organizations, and civil society in Vienna and online.
