The United Nations Information Service Vienna (UNIS)

and the

VIC Society of Writers

invite you to a book reading and discussion of

  “PRIME TIME CRIME”

with

  Kemal Kurspahic
Former editor-in-chief of the Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje and
Spokesperson for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
and author of

  “Prime Time Crime:
Balkan Media in War and Peace”

One of the most courageous journalists of our time, Kemal Kurspahic in his latest book tells a riveting tale of how media malfeasance stirred up the ethnic hatreds that led to the bloody Balkan wars of the 1990s. The book is also the story of independent journalists who risked their lives and their livelihoods in an effort to tell a more balanced story. It also shows how the media in Serbia “gave birth” to Slobodan Milosevic, and offers comprehensive lessons for media intervention in other countries undergoing transitions to democracy.
