NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE
OF ZIMBABWE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

VIENNA, 19 April (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe to the United Nations (Vienna), Mr. Tirivafi John Kangai, presented his credentials on Thursday to Pino Arlacchi, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Kangai served as High Commissioner of the Republic of Zimbabwe to Zambia between 1995 and 2001 and to India and Bangladesh between 1989 and 1994. Also between 1989 and 1994 Mr. Kangai served as Ambassador to Nepal.

Between 1982 and 1989 Mr. Kangai was Director-General of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and Deputy Director-General between 1980 and 1982. Prior to that he served as Deputy Chief Representative and then Chief Representative of ZANU (PF) to the United Nations, USA and the Carribeans.

Between 1972 and 1976 Mr. Kangai was News Producer at KRON TV, San Francisco and then Editor at KPFA Radio in Berkeley, during which time he publicized the plight of the black majority in Southern Africa. Before that he served as School Administrator between 1968 and 1971.

Mr. Kangai earned his BA degree in Broadcasting Communications Arts (Radio and T.V.) and International Relations and an MA degree in Educational Technology and Print Media.

He is married with five children.
