SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW MILITARY ADVISER
IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT

NEW YORK, 18 October (UN Headquarters) -- The Secretary-General has appointed Major General Patrick Cammaert as Military Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations. The appointment will become effective in November.

Major General Cammaert, a national of the Netherlands, will succeed Major General Tim Ford from Australia.

Major General Cammaert is currently Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). Before that, he served as Commander of the Multinational United Nations Stand-by Forces High Readiness Brigade (SHIRBRIG). He also served as Battalion Commander in the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) and Commander of the Multinational Brigade of the Rapid Reaction Forces of the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR).
