SECRETARY-GENERAL CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBILITY
OF RENEWED VIOLENCE IN VENEZUELA

NEW YORK, 10 October (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is concerned about the possibility of renewed violence in Venezuela.

The Secretary-General appeals to the people of Venezuela to act with patience and moderation, and seek solutions to their differences based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law. In this regard, he supports the efforts of the international community to facilitate a dialogue.
