UN SECRETARY-GENERAL TO VISIT AUSTRIA

VIENNA, 17 April (UN Information Service) -- Following an invitation by the Austrian Government, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will visit Austria from Monday 21 through Wednesday 23 April 2003.

During the official visit from 22 to 23 April, the Secretary-General will meet on Tuesday morning at the Vienna International Centre with the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna Antonio Maria Costa and with the UN staff in Vienna. He will then meet with Federal President Thomas Klestil. On Tuesday evening, the Secretary-General will visit the newly renovated Albertina, followed by a dinner hosted by Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

On Wednesday morning, the Secretary-General will meet with the Foreign Minister at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where a photo opportunity is scheduled for 9.30 a.m. and a brief press encounter for 10.30 a.m. Later on Wednesday morning, the Secretary-General will visit the Parliament, where he will meet with the President of the National Council Andreas Khol, and with heads of political parties, followed by a meeting with the Mayor of Vienna Michael Häupl. The Secretary-General will then attend a luncheon hosted by the Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, followed by a meeting with the Federal Chancellor. A photo opportunity at the Federal Chancellery is scheduled for 3 p.m.
