Press Statement by Security Council President on Assassination of Serbian Prime Minister

NEW YORK, 12 March (UN Headquarters) -- Following is the press statement on the assassination of the Serbian Prime Minister, delivered today by Security Council President Mamady Traoré (Guinea):

Council members strongly condemned the assassination earlier today of Zoran Djindjic, Serbian Prime Minister.

Council members expressed their deepest condolences to the Government and people of Serbia, and, in particular, to Mr. Djindjic's family.

They urged that the perpetrators of this cowardly crime be brought to justice as quickly as possible.

They also expressed their support for the people of Serbia in this difficult time.
