NEW YORK, 29 March (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the attacks and incidents of violence in Kinshasa yesterday.  He strongly condemns any attempt to disrupt the transitional process and calls on all parties to stay the course of national reconciliation leading to fair and free national elections and the earliest implementation of the Global and All-Inclusive Agreement.  The Secretary-General reaffirms the determination of MONUC to carry out its mandate authorized by the Security Council in support of the transitional process.
