New Permanent Representative of Kenya Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 25 March (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Mr. Julius K. Kandie, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Mr. Kandie will also be serving as Ambassador to Austria and as a Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Vienna.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Kandie served as Director for Political Affairs at the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 2000 and 2003, he was Solicitor General at the Attorney’s Chambers in Nairobi, and between 1996 and 2000, Deputy Solicitor General. Mr. Kandie also served as Head of the Legal Division and Senior Legal Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Kandie was First Secretary at the Kenya High Commission in London and Representative of Kenya to the International Maritime Organization. From 1985 to 1989, he served as Second Secretary at the Kenyan Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Mr. Kandie holds a degree in Public International Law from the University of Nairobi. He has also earned diplomas in Government Legal Advisors Course from the University of London and Legal and Professional Studies from the Kenya School of Law respectively.

Mr. Kandie speaks English, French and Kiswahili.
