New Permanent Representative of Jordan Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 24 September (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV),  Shehab A. Madi, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General of UNOV.

Mr. Madi will also be concurrently serving as Ambassador of Jordan to Austria and non-resident Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia. He will also be serving as Permanent Representative of Jordan to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other international organizations in Vienna.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Madi served as Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations and to other international organizations in Geneva (2000-2004). Between 1992 and 1999, he served as Political and Information Officer with the United Nations Compensations Commission in Geneva. From 1989 to 1991, he was a Fellow at the Center for International Affairs at the Harvard University, USA. Between 1987 and 1988, Mr. Madi served as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Amman, Jordan. He has also held the posts of Director of the Office of the Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan (1985-1987) and Personal Secretary of the Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan (1977-1985).

Mr. Madi earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Political Science and History at the University of Arizona, USA. He is married and has two children.
