New Permanent Representative of Iraq presents Credentials

VIENNA, 23 November (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Tariq Aqrawi, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Aqrawi was serving as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Cooperation, Kurdistan Regional Government (1996-2004).

Mr. Aqrawi has served in a variety of functions in the course of his professional career. These include as a consultant on satellite communications systems in Bonn (1994-96); a design engineer with a German non-governmental organization (1992-94); and at the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Foreign Relations Bureau in Berlin in 1983-86.

From 1972 to 1983, Mr. Aqrawi was Chairman of the Kurdish Students Society Europe; Head of the KDP, 6th Branch (Europe) and Member of the KDP at the International Foreign Relations Bureau in London.

Mr. Aqrawi completed his Masters in Electrical Power Engineering at the Technical University in Prague. He is married and has two children.
