Security Council Committee on Liberia Adds New Identifying Information, Harmonizes Travel Ban, Assets Freeze Lists

NEW YORK, 2 May (UN Headquarters) -- On 2 May 2005, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1521 (2003) concerning Liberia decided to include additional identifying information in connection with some of the individuals inscribed on the list of individuals and entities subject to the measures imposed by paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1532 (2004) (the Assets Freeze list) and/or on the list of persons subject to the travel restrictions imposed by paragraph 4(a) of resolution 1521 (2003) and renewed by resolution 1579 (2004) (the Travel Ban list).

In addition to the inclusion of new identifying information, the contents of Travel Ban list and the Assets Freeze list have been harmonized.  Although the two lists will continue to be separate documents of the Committee, the harmonization process ensures that the identifying information will be identical on both the Travel Ban and Assets Freeze lists for those individuals whose names are included on both lists.

The Travel Ban list was first issued on 16 March 2004.  The Assets Freeze list was first issued on 14 June 2004.  The Committee will continue to update the lists on a regular basis.
