Secretary-General Saddened by Death of Mexico’s Former UN Representative, Adolfo Aguilar Zinser

NEW YORK, 6 June (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Adolfo Aguilar Zinser, who served as Mexico’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from February 2002 until November 2003.  The Secretary-General extends his profound condolences to Mr. Aguilar Zinser’s family, as well as to the Government of Mexico.  He notes that Mr. Aguilar Zinser served his country with dedication, wit and independence of spirit at a crucial time for the multilateral system, and will be remembered with respect and affection by many colleagues and friends around the world.
