New Permanent Representative of Norway Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 22 February (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Bengt O. Johansen, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Johansen was serving as Chief Negotiator/Ambassador World Trade Organization (WTO) Affairs, WTO/Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Section, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway.

Mr. Johansen has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Ambassador to Switzerland, accredited to the Holy See and Liechtenstein (1997); Director General, Department of External Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1989); Director General, Department of Government Guarantees, Ministry of Trade and Shipping (1987); Deputy Director General, Section of Government Guarantees, Ministry of Trade and Shipping (1983); and Head of Legal Section, Guarantee Institute for Export Credits (1980).

Mr. Johansen holds a Bachelors Degree in Law from the University of Oslo, Norway. He is married and has two children.
