New Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 7 April (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Wu Hailong, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Hailong was serving as the Deputy Commissioner at the Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China (2001-05).

Mr. Hailong has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Deputy Director General, Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-01); Counsellor, Chinese Embassy in Israel (1996-99); First Secretary and Deputy Director, Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992-96); Second Secretary and First Secretary, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations (1988-92); Third Secretary and Second Secretary, Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1986-88); Attaché and Third Secretary, Permanent Representative Office of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

Mr. Hailong holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Beijing Foreign Languages University. He is married and has one child.
