New Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 26 April (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations (Vienna), Rakhat Aliyev, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Aliyev was serving as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan (2005 - 07).

Mr. Aliyev has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as Special Representative of Kazakhstan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (2005), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna (2002 - 05), Deputy Head, President's Security Service, Kazakhstan (2000 - 02), and First Deputy Chairman, Committee on National Security (2001 - 02).

Mr. Aliyev holds a doctoral degree in Medical and Economic Sciences.
