New Permanent Representative of Bangladesh Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 18 February (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Debapriya Bhattacharya, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Mr. Bhattacharya is also serving as Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), World Trade Organization (WTO) and other International Organizations in Geneva. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Bhattacharya was serving as Executive Director, Centre for Policy Dialogue.

Mr. Bhattacharya has served in many capacities in the course of his career including as: Senior Research Fellow, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies; Member, Delegation of Bangladesh to the Second Meeting of the Least Developed Countries Trade Ministers, Dhaka (2003); Member, Delegation of Bangladesh to WTO Fourth Ministerial Meeting, Doha (2001); Director, Janata Bank (1996 - 2000); Member, Task Force on Foreign Aid constituted under the Adviser (Minister) for Planning in the Interim Government, Bangladesh (1991); Senior Fulbright Fellow, Centre for Global Development, Washington D.C. and Post-Doctoral Fellow, Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford.

Mr. Bhattacharya holds a doctoral degree in Economics from the Plekhanov Institute of National Economy, Moscow.

He is married and has a child.
