New Permanent Representative of Paraguay Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 7 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the United Nations (Vienna), Horacio Nogués Zubizarreta, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Nogués Zubizarreta was serving as Director-General, Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paraguay (since 2007).

Mr. Nogués Zubizarreta has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Director-General, Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004 - 06), Ambassador to Argentina (2002 - 03), Ambassador to Uruguay (2000 - 02), Ambassador to Bolivia (1997 - 2000), Minister, Embassy of Paraguay, Brasilia, Brazil (1989 - 90), Counsellor, Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York (1985 - 89), Director-General, Department of International Organizations, Treaties and Acts, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1983 - 85), Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1978 - 83), Deputy Director, Department of International Organizations, Treaties and Acts, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1973 - 78).

Mr. Nogués Zubizarreta holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Catholic University of Asunción, Paraguay.

He is married and has three children.
