New Permanent Representative of Cyprus Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 11 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the United Nations (Vienna), H. E. Mr. Marios Lyssiotis presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Lyssiotis served as Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of Cyprus, a post which he assumed in 2006.

Mr. Lyssiotis has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (2004-06), Member of the Diplomatic Office of the President of Cyprus (2003-04), Deputy Director, Cyprus Question Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-03), Counsellor, Permanent Delegation to the European Union (1997-2001), Attaché, Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden (1994-97), Member of the Cabinet, Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1993) and Diplomatic Advisor to the President of Cyprus (1991-93).

Mr. Lyssiotis holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, an Master's degree Political Science and a D.E.A. in Political Studies. He speaks Greek, French, and English.

Mr. Lyssiotis is married and has one daughter.
