New Permanent Representative of Sudan Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 19 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations (Vienna), H. E. Mr. Mahmood Hassan Elamin, presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Mr. Elamin has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Director, Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (since 2007), Ambassador of Sudan to Senegal, Dakar, and non-resident Ambassador of Sudan to Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali and Sierra Leone (2003-07), Deputy Director, Africa Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of the African Union Desk, Khartoum, Sudan (1998-2003), Minister Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Sudan, Bangui, Central African Republic (1994-98), Counsellor, Africa Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993-94), First Secretary, Embassy of Sudan, Washington D.C., United States (1987-91), First Secretary, Embassy of Sudan, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (1985-87), First Secretary, West Europe Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1983-85), Second Secretary, Embassy of Sudan, Prague, Czechoslovakia (1979-83), Third Secretary, Embassy of Sudan, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1978-79), and Third Secretary, Economic Cooperation Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1977-78).

Mr. Elamin holds a Master's degree in Political and Strategic Studies from the University of Alzaeem Alazhary, a Bachelor's degree in Social and Economic Studies from the University of Khartoum, a Diploma in Political Science from the Institut International d'Administration Publique, Paris, and a Diploma in French language from the University of Clermont-Ferrand. He speaks Arabic, English and French.

Mr. Elamin is married and has four children.
