New Permanent Representative of Iraq
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 10 February (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq, Surood Rashid Najib, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

Mr Najib has served in various capacities in the course of his career with the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he joined in the early 1970s. Among them: Chief of Staff (2008-2010); Head of North and South American department (2007-2008); Head of International Organization and Multilateral Cooperation (2004-2007); Head of the Human Rights department (2003-2004).

Mr Najib worked as a human rights activist and founded an educational illiteracy programme for youth in Iraq. He speaks English, French, Turkish, Romanian, Arabic and Kurdish.

Mr Najib holds a Masters degree and a PhD in International Relations.
